Cork Forest

Here's a YouTube clip from the BBC of a natural cork oak forest.  Truly amazing.

Something we need to preserve so we can preserve out future wines!
I have some more crazy ideas for recycling corks and making art out of them.  I might get started on some tonight!

What do you think or cork recycling?
Should they be used for recycled composite corks in wine?  Or should we continue to make kick ass art out of them?

  4. Ah, the ol' tainted cork problem is leading to the demise of the ancient plug?
You have no choice then, but to make art out of them.

  5. i happen to think that bottles capped with screw on caps, some times makes the wines a bit more crisp and clean tasting to me, and it solves the problem of having to lay the bottle on its side aswell.

  8. The great thing about cork trees is they do not need to be cut down to be harvested. You can harvest form the same tree once every 6-9 years. No deforestation, which is cool.

The bad news is the flooring industry realized this, and you are seeing more and more cork flooring, which is comparable to (and cheaper than) hardwood floors. This makes cork for wine bottles and such more expensive, since the demand is higher.
